Royal Oaks in Sun City, AZ, exemplifies the evolution of senior living dining, transforming six distinct venues into modern, functional spaces. Embracing a “Modern Desert” aesthetic, the design blends contemporary elements with Arizona’s natural beauty. Each venue—Thrive Coffee Shop, Oasis Market, Wild Cactus Bistro & Grill, Sonrei Expo Restaurant, Willow Reserve Wine Room, and 1983 Pub—was thoughtfully branded to enhance identity, efficiency, and experience. Features like a robotic busing system, self-checkout market, and live cooking demonstrations elevate service and engagement. This renovation sets a new standard for senior living, seamlessly integrating design, branding, and operations.

Branding Process
SCOPOS initiated the branding process by immersing in Royal Oaks’ mission and vision. The goal was to craft an identity that seamlessly integrates with the "Modern Desert" aesthetic, reflecting the natural beauty and sophistication of Sun City, Arizona. By engaging with stakeholders, including residents and project partners, we ensured that each venue's brand would resonate with the community’s lifestyle and expectations.
Through this strategic branding approach, Royal Oaks now offers a dining experience where each venue tells a compelling story, enriching the lives of its residents through thoughtful design and branding.
1. Brand Strategy
The strategy focused on:
- Defining the unique personality and ambiance of each venue
- Aligning visual and verbal branding elements with the "Modern Desert" theme
- Ensuring clarity in service positioning for intuitive guest experiences
2. Naming and Concept Development
- Thrive (Coffee Shop): A brand revolving around thriving health, independence, and morning inspiration. The playful typography is highlighted with accents of action that conveys energy, movement, and self-reliance.
- Oasis (Market): Implies a welcome respite and plays on the place in the desert where you find relief and nourishment. The visual identity integrates a palm tree within the letter "O," doubling as a fresh tomato leaf, symbolizing sustenance and renewal.
- Wild Cactus (Bistro & Grill): A playful, vibrant brand that mirrors the lively southwest-inspired decor, infusing the space with a desert bloom’s bursts of color and spontaneity.
- Sonrei (Expo Restaurant): Derived from the Spanish word meaning “I smiled,” this name reflects the joy and warmth of a full-service dining experience, reinforcing Sun City’s bright and welcoming spirit.
- Willow Reserve (Wine Room & Private Dining): A refined and elegant brand, blending the existing ‘Willows’ name with ‘Reserve,’ evoking the exclusivity of aged, small-batch wines. The design incorporates a sophisticated icon resembling a seal of authenticity.
- 1983 (Upscale Pub Bar): A nostalgic yet modern brand that pays homage to Royal Oaks’ founding year. The design features playfully integrated numbers with open font that fosters a sense of intimacy.
3. Visual Identity & Design Development
- Custom typography and color palettes that reflect the essence of each venue
- Logos and graphic elements that create recognizable and memorable identities
- Signage, menu designs, and digital assets that seamlessly integrate with the space’s aesthetics
4. Implementation
- A consistent visual and experiential flow between venues
